This is an in-depth guide on applying deception to advance status or gain success.I will be providing examples that stem from my work. While keeping in mind that my career may be different than your own,These insights are broad and flexible;Connect the dots and figure out how this lecture may or may not apply to yours.I won’t specifically aim this lecture at musicians, artists, or writers,But the examples I provide will most likely reflect my own interests, and they may or may not work for you.End of disclaimer.
————————————–
The definition of success differs from person to person. In this lecture, success is defined as advancement in one’s career. Now, it’s one thing to get a raise or two,It’s another to become a poster boy.One can work hard, stay honest, and remain consistent and efficient, and one may or may not succeed and advance.Me, I’m a professional song writer. This means I write music for bands that either can’t or don’t want to.In my line of work, talent, honesty and a strong work ethic will NOT equal success. One must stand above the rest in order to advance. It’s cutthroat out there, and I don’t like losing. So, I have applied my work here at the order to my job,and I have seen results.
First, this there is something I must stress. You want to stand out?Do the exact opposite of what people say you can do.**** the experts and their tired statistics and overused and outdated business plans.Take an idea that already exists, and look at the rules that apply to it.Some of those rules indicate what works and what doesn’t,but some indicate phobias and taboos. Now, jump in in front of everyone. Why?The lesson is simple enough.Make a name for yourself, or somebody else will make a name for you.Keep in mind, honesty is not the best policy. It is the slowest method available in a dog-eat-dog world.Deception is a powerful tool for those who know how to use it.
Make a name for yourself – by making the world think they are naming you.The world is filled with suckers just waiting to buy the next brand,And all of them want to feel like they have control. They love to think that they created the elite few.How do you win over the masses? With purpose. With a righteous cause. So many success stories begin and end with a cause that inspired people to follow. It all begins with the simple act of breaking the rules. This is one key thing that makes all the difference in the world.Break the rules in order to get caught,So that people will join your cause. You see, when people feel like their freedom is being taken away, they want a revolution. But it’s all about the target audience.Figure out what rule or rules that you feel your target audience may not agree with. Now, it’s easy enough to do this, but justifying why this rule should not exist relies on how well you can make a point.Anything can seem deep if you use a little charisma, coupled with a strong knowledge of language. Now, think hard about why this rule may be regarded as unfair. Not just unfair to you, but to everyone. Can you make a strong argument? Now, break the rule in front of everyone, and make a big noise. Here at the order, the use of “we” is discouraged.Throw that out the window. The sheep like to feel like they are apart of something big.Involve everyone.Cry out, “Hell no, we won’t go!!”Now you have a cause, and a revolution will begin. But don’t become boring; people have short attention spans.
The best way to keep it interesting?****.Create a belief or ideal out of ****; this is effective,Because fiction is always more fun!But don’t let it be known that you are the hand that planted the seed.Give people the idea that they were already aware of the idea. All you want to be is the expert. This ideal supports your cause, and your cause will be thought of as something based in the objective. Therefore, the ideal is best if thought of as a pre-existing ideal. One of the easiest ways to do this is by claiming a role model to surpass. This doesn’t mean they are actually your role model, but people like to dip their toes in the unknown only if they are still safelysurrounded by the familiar. The reason why you want this model is this aspect of the familiar.People are likely to believe you will succeed if you provide an exampleof a previous success story.(This falls in line with my previous point of being the expert, not the creator. If you claim to invent something, people will point out why you aren’t,claim a role model, or you may be assigned one. Then people will probably say you stole their idea.)
Controversy sells,So don’t be afraid to ** someone off, including the alleged role model. There must be subtlety, so don’t be too obvious, or you may ** off your audience. You want to be just different enough to catch the eye. This isn’t a balancing act.**** balance.Balance is for ballerinas.Strengthen the ALIGNMENT.Your plan must be properly aligned with your goal. Now that people are listening to you,Show them what you can do.Be the leading authority on your own awesomeness, and inform everyone why they need what you alone can give.Welcome to the elite few.Don’t screw up.
Fear is not the Enemy
Fear can be an unstable, irrational, incoherent and chaotic state, that can affect even the most rational of minds.I would like to point out my findings on the subject that I have come to understandafter many hours of meditation. I personally have come to the conclusion that the the true ancestor of all fearIs the fear of death. Fear of pain is no different, as pain is our body’s warning system for the purpose of self preservation. All of our fears concerning details of our lives, such as fear of humiliation or fear of failure came later, after humanity formed the first building blocks of civilization.Even these fears stem from self preservation. Humanity, just like most life forms, utilizes power in numbers. And so the need to please and impress others stems from our need to be part of the pack. Those rejected were cast out, and were likely to die quickly. And so, even these fears that seem to have little to do with death in fact stem from self preservation. But the more intelligent man became, the more mysterious death became, and the scarier it became.
So why do people fear death? Let us take a deeper look into our relationship with death.Death has always played a fundamental role in our lives, it has always been there and always will. From early tribes to advanced civilization, people are born, and people die. It ends us, and even sustains us.Life recycles what death casts away. Yet, there is a grand mystery at play here.Death is one of the most familiar aspects to us, yet we still know next to nothing about it.For something that has been with us since life began, we can only theorize and what happenswhen the final breath is released from our bodies. And so, fear of the unknown has a HUGE role to play.I may go so far as to say that death is the reason for humanity’s fear of the unknown.A human cannot fathom what it is like to not exist, simply because it is not “like” anything.Atheists have claimed that this may be the reason humanity created the concept of an afterlife to begin with.fear of the dark; of being lost; of isolation; of being found out; of being out of control.Other fears are more specific to death itself: fear of non-existence; of what happens next;of the end of the game, fear of hell. Lastly, there is the fear of pain before death. This state of not knowing and being unable to know non-being gives us a blank slateon which to speculate about the nature of death and the possibility of an afterlife. As there is no knowing, the human imagination attempts to color-in the un-colorable.All we can do with death is to speculate about it, since it is our own death that we contemplate contemplate most, not the deaths of others. Objectively, death is a simple and common occurrence.Subjectively, however, the question is more intimate and private,as only you can experience your dying breath, and have the thoughts and feelings that you have about it.
I do not fear death, but I do respect it.Whether there is or isn’t an afterlife, death is simply the beginning of a new phase of matter.Existentially, while it may seem like there is much to fear, I am not afraid of what I call “unexperience”.It is up for debate what it is to exist, so the simplicity of death and it’s purpose can be attractive, if you see it for what it is.Afterlife or not, matter is matter, and life goes on.Additionally, knowing the “why” behind fear is the precursor to conquering fear. Many here have overcome fear, and only they can know how and why.But there is undoubtedly one common aspect to their journeys. Knowledge. If you know what you fear, and if you know why you fear it, and where these feelings stem from, you can then take the first step to conquering that fear.Fear is not the enemy unless you make it so.Do not underestimate it’s usefulness, (it has kept humanity alive this far)But do not let it be your master, as many have done before.
Ideals, Opinions, and Entitlement
You’ve heard the expression ‘everyone is entitled to their opinion.’Perhaps you’ve even said it yourself.Well, as soon as you enter debate, it’s no longer true. You are no longer entitled to your opinion. You are only entitled to what you can argue. If you can’t back it up, it is not worth anyone’s time.
Harsh?Perhaps. But when one enters a heated debate,it is paramount that he knows how to construct and defend an argument, and to recognize when an argument has become indefensible.
The problem with “I’m entitled to my opinion” is that, all too often,it’s used to objectify something that is subjective;used to hold on to beliefs that exist without foundation. It becomes shorthand for “I can say or think whatever I like”,and many times it is accompanied by the attitudethat continuing to argue is somehow disrespectful. And this attitude feeds,I suggest, into the false equivalence between experts and non-experts that is an increasingly pernicious feature of our public discourse.
Firstly, what’s an opinion?
There are distinguished differences between certain knowledge and opinion.Unlike “1+1=2” or “there are no squared circles”,an opinion has a degree of subjectivity and uncertainty to it.But “opinion” ranges from1) tastes or preferences,2) views that concern society such as prudence or politics, morals, ethics, and religion, and 3) views grounded in technical expertise, such as legal or scientific opinions.
You can’t really argue about the first kind of opinion.I’d be silly to insist that you’re wrongto think cheese pizza is better than pepperoni. The problem is that sometimes, many implicitly seem to take opinions of the secondand even the third sort to be unarguablein the way questions of taste are.Perhaps that’s one reason (no doubt there are others)why some people, in spite of a lack of knowledge, think they’re entitled to disagree with experts without valid foundation, and still have their views respected. After all, everybody is entitled to their opinion, right?
My sister is a fine example. We’ll call her Ms. X.Ms. X has no medical qualifications, but argues that vaccines cause autism. She argued with her family doctor for an hour, before calling me to vent.I told her that the doctor has experience, and knowledge gained from years of college. He has knowledge and evidence to back his claims. However, she remained unshaken in her opinion that vaccines cause autism. She claimed to have hard evidence of this, even though her “hard evidence” is a list of articles she found online, written by conspiracy theorists who are hardly medical experts. When I pointed out that the doctor had the relevant expertise, she insisted that if politicians can comment on nuclear powerwithout being scientists, she should be allowed to comment on vaccineswithout being a medical professional and still have her opinion respected. But nobody assumes that the politician in this scenario is an authorityon the physics of nuclear fission;his job is to comment on the policy responses to the science, not the science itself.
So what does it mean to be “entitled” to an opinion?
If “Everyone’s entitled to their opinion” just means nobody has the rightto stop an individual from believing whatever they want, then the statement is true, but fairly trivial. No one can stop you saying that vaccines cause autism,no matter how many times that claim has been disproven.
But if ‘entitled to an opinion’ means ‘entitled to have your views treated as serious candidates for the truth, such as Ms. X,then it’s pretty clearly false, and quite absurd. And this is a distinction that tends to get blurred.
The idea that an individual’s opinion should be respectedwithout proper foundation implies an equal right to be heard on a matterin which only one of the two parties has the relevant expertise.
Inner Turmoil and Self Discovery – The Sith Ideal (Rewritten)
My path is paved toward self sufficiency, and personal empowerment. To harbor my own purpose, to take control over my own path,to utilize passion, emotion, logic, and experience to break the chainsand achieve my goals.
One of life’s basic characteristics, whether expressed as consciousness or as energy, is that it is spontaneous. And although life cannot be controlled,it can be exploited.I view life as circular.Energy is motion, and energy interacts with matter. And as action always causes a reaction,Energy interacts and it’s interaction becomes the root cause of energy.Energy is it’s own father.Just like energy, organic life is the result of effort.Mental, social, and emotional existence is no different.Every achievement is a result of effort.Effort must be made, or circumstances will dictate results.I strive to overcome resistance in order to find logic behind spontaneity.Just the same, I face resistance in order to overcome inner turmoil. To attain the tools needed to exploit the external,I must repair and maintain the internal.I must confront my fears, admit my weaknesses, shed my illusions, gain personal insight, and overcome. This does require a great deal of effort, but everything worth doing is worth working for.Effort must be expended for the sake of shedding irrational preconception,of giving up a specific illusion, of overcoming a barrier, and not for an as yet theoretical process called self-definitionthat promises to feel good.I am searching instead for self realization.but if self-realization is arduously forced and looked for as a pre-defined idea,it will not come, at least not as a direct result of these efforts, imo.
There is never an end result, it seems. One can always dig deeper.
The idea of self-definition is a naïve idea, the idea that I alone must be the one who affects my life, that nobody else has any influence on my personal path. This idea is something that some individualists and existentialist strive for. This is foolish.I can toil and turn, suffering with the idea that the existence of another consciousnessin relation to mine is an invasion of your self-definition,or I can accept this existence of an outside entity, and use this outside perspective to learn more about myself in relation to the world around me,and/or exploit the external interaction to attain.Regardless of whether I accept the existence of outside influence,it will exist nonetheless. To lie to myself will only ensure stagnation. Each step toward seeing the truth in the self is a step toward inner growth.
Many find themselves in the paradoxical positionof deeply yearning for the fruits of these involuntary processes, yet fearing and battling them. The conflict can be terrible and tragic, or it can strengthen.Either way, it can be resolved only when one faces the inner turmoil.
Internal Machinations
Experience shapes me; thought translates and reacts to experience.Experience leads to thought, thought leads to action, action leads to experience.Emotion begins as a result of the cycle, but emotion soon becomes an agent of cause.
Wisdom grants me foresight; wisdom is the refined product of experience, thought, and emotion. The ability to anticipate and premeditate are valuable in a world influenced by chance.Knowledge gained by experience means little on its own.Context, purpose, and applicability, measured with well defined standards of efficiency and cost lead to the evolution of wisdom.Wisdom is far more outstretched, vague, and encompassing than can be defined within a system founded only on logic and reason. This would imply that given enough time, predictability would become infallible.Without feeling, without the intimate sense of self, there is no true wisdom.
Emotions reflect me; my thoughts are reinforced by my feelings.Yet emotion can indeed hinder.Emotion can be irrational and unpredictable. To let a decision rest entirely on the shoulders of emotion is foolish.Emotion is a tool. Every tool has a job to do. Emotion can be a powerful ally,or it can be a fatal hindrance. I have yet to meet one who has mastered emotion. As a central aspect of what makes me human,I recognise that emotion is never easy to control. This is important to me.Emotion is an area that I need work on.I deal with individual aspects of emotion quite well, and I deal with emotion as it applies to an individual or situation, and the emotions that result or are contrived from interaction. But the core of emotion is what I’m interested in.Emotion is born of turmoil and confusion. The most potent of emotions, such as love, begin as circumstanially reactive processes that seem to stem from empathy,as emotion such as love and hate are often relative to interactions with interpersonal transelationand projection of personal perspective. It is important to note that empathy relies on experience, and one without experience is dependent on subjective opinion. For example,I have never been through a divorce,so I can only speculate based on the closest relative experience, and compare the variable to what I have experienced in my life. There is conflict in empathy due to it’s nature of external influence. In order to understand my emotions toward the external,I must understand the internal. But I do not deny the external. Only a fool would deny such a perfect tool.
Actions reveal me; actions do not define, they reflect intent.Actions are guided with my purpose, but do not resist the sweeping current.Actions guided by purpose;actions propelled by the sweeping current; These actions are relflections of my resolve; extensions of my will.
Words project me; the ability to communicate enables me to interact, exploit, manipulate or influence, and opens the door to externally obtained knowledge and wisdom.Communication can also lead to emotional connections, connections that grow to be important and upheld;bonds built on trust, bonds that often defy reason and logic. Many have made love their purpose, and they happily serve this purpose until their dying breath.Whether this is a worthwhile purpose is up to the one walking the path, for there is no purpose but the purpose given.Communication is a valuable tool, and while it has its perks,it also has its drawbacks. The price of admission can include subjective judgement, criticism, and critical violation of your opinions, emotions, faith, or principles. The existential danger is fleeting. It withers when I deny it breath. It can be exploited like any other aspect of existence, given time and opportunity.Empathy is a side effect, and she is a double edged sword.Words both enable and restrict.Words both simplify and complicate.Words are both enlightening and deceiving.Words allow me to venture beyond the internal, but are always anchored to the internal.
Skill empowers me; indeed, ability alone is limited without purpose. One can be a skilled musician, but without a song to play it means nothing. It is never a good idea to wait for purpose to be freely given. While one should not deny the external, one should not fall under it’s tyranny, either. The wise know when to act.Competence grants me freedom; capacity expands possibility, and allows me to direct my own path instead of following a path blazed by another. One must learn history or be doomed to repeat it.
Sith Realism
Existence precedes essence, and essence is a reflection of experience-and the subjective conclusions drawn from the perception of the world from an individual’s vantage point.
It’s somewhat ironic then that the definition of the Sith path can be seen as arbitrary, as the defining of Sith Realism is an active attempt to objectify something that is based on one’s active role in his or her own individual subjective experience. (A pattern that seems to be objective in itself, as it is a pattern that I perceive to be shared by most, if not all individuals-one’s own subjective opinion is treated as objective fact by most)
Another reason attempts to objectively define Sith Realism are quite ironic is that the most commonly shared attributes of Sith Realism are not the qualities of the individual’s philosophies, but the rejection of external philosophies that attempt to objectify the subjective human experience for the perceived purpose of revoking individual free will. But this perceived irony only happens upon individual attempts to adapt another’s definition of Sith Realism as if it is objective knowledge shared as an equal and solid fact that remains constant within any given vantage point-or upon individual attempts to presume that his/her perception defines another’s experience, therein objectifying the subjective qualities of the existential experience just the same.
That said, the Sith Master teaches his student not by defining Sith Realism as a philosophy itself, but by introducing the idea of the subjective experience, and provoking the student to internalize his or her perceptions, concepts, and the conclusions drawn thereof. The culmination of these constructed mental models lead to existential crisis, and the realization that the only thing that is objective to the individual is his or her own experience in and of itself. The inevitable crisis leads me to the perceived conclusion that one cannot simply follow Sith Realism as a path, as Sith Realism is not a path-but a method of approaching the path of individual evolution as an agent of his or her own intent. As such, I identify myself as a Sith Realist, and I define my path as a journey toward inner evolution for the purpose of mental and physical superiority. This superiority is not a scale measured against another perceived individual, it is measured against the only objective scale there is-myself. I strive to become superior to myself, and that is how my evolution is achieved.
My philosophy is formed around the idea that the individual’s experience is based solely on the foundations provided by his/her own perception, and as a result, the sentient mind and it’s activity in the world becomes an agent of paradoxical patterns: free will and influence are both an illusion and an unavoidable truth at the same time. What I mean is this-Influence is unavoidable, in that the individual actively seeks out and submits to influence, and will continue to do so even if he/she is unaware of this or even actively denies doing so. The paradox is that the individual will submit to outside influence of his/her own free will, even if said individual is actively attempting to resist all outside influence. The ensuing Existential crisis is a symptom of this paradox.
Consider The Look, and it’s implications.
A peeping Tom is watching a woman undress through a keyhole. She is naked in her room, while he watches her in an empty hallway. He is enthralled, and is so absorbed in the situation that he has forgotten himself and is actively projecting. As he is watching the naked woman, he has become unaware of himself, and is mentally engaged in the perceived world of the naked woman’s bedroom. Then he hears a creaking floor board behind him. He is startled, and immediately withdraws his projection from the naked girl’s room to his own perceived reality. He quickly jerks away from the door. He is filled with shame for his own actions, and in his startled state is already consciously preparing an attempt to hide his actions. The fact is, there is nobody there. The house is old, and the foundation is shifting-causing the floorboards to creak. But there needn’t be anybody there to see him. The Look is perceived: he sees himself as he believes he would be seen by another. He experiences shame because he subconsciously expects to be judged. In doing so, he mentally submits to outside influence as an act of free will. As one cannot ever truly know how he/she is perceived by another, (one can only experience the world from his/her own vantage point) he/she projects by perceiving his/herself as they expect to be seen, therefore defining his/her own qualities, but doing so in a manner that accepts these characteristics as if they have been assigned by an external source. As such, influence is a reality that is based on internal self-perception, but is an unavoidable part of the human’s mental mechanism.
The crisis is such because it provides vague, abstract mental models, and those abstract mental models lead to perceived conclusions, and those perceived conclusions provide context, and the provided context contradicts and conflicts with the same abstract mental models that it supports and aligns with. This paradox leads to inner turmoil and confusion. Only when the individual returns to a state of active projection does the crisis end, and it ends not because of a working solution to the conflicting variables, but because the individual shifts focus from the paradox of actively objectifying the perceived world to simply perceiving the subjective world. The crisis is not the paradox, as the paradox never ceases to exist. The crisis is the symptom of realizing the paradox, and the crisis resolves only after the individual abandons the overwhelming conflict and returns from it’s attempts to define the the paradox, back to it’s natural state of simply experiencing the paradox as a reality. This act of acceptance can either be passive-therefore leading to self-sustained stagnation and regression, or it can be active-leading to eventual mental evolution and self-aligned progression.
