Rule of One
In the lore that inspired most of us, a variety of doctrines existed throughout the history of the Sith Order. These doctrines were subject to adaptation, replacement, and competing factions with doctrines of their own in any given era. This, to an extent, holds true for real Sith as well. Some of these doctrines were enacted and enforced, while others simply articulated axiomatic truths. This is one of mine:
“I am Sith. Others may exist, but… In their company, or alone, One will always remain.”
That statement holds true for each and every one of us—no matter our splits and divisions, no matter the diverging beliefs between each of us. With or without knowledge or contact with other practitioners, we will always be Sith. Each of us is a singularity that exemplifies this rule: One Sith, living this way of life.
“It’s my path, my calling… my way. One I chose before I knew of other Sith. It transcends them, and their sects.
I made that choice when I was alone. If you all died today, it would endure.
As long as I exist, there will always be one Sith. Those that cannot say the same, are not Sith.”
The “Rule of One,” as I define it, falls mostly into the latter category, as it is more an assertive observation than an approach to be implemented. It does, however, challenge any who subscribe to the idea that recognition from an order or academy is a necessity to being a practitioner of our ways.
