Jensari
The Jensari are much like a pack of wolves. The apprentices/students are much like the youthful pups; the Guards are much like the wolf scouts, the Generals are much like the Beta wolves, while the Leader is like the Alpha. In order for a wolf pack to work and survive, there can be no weaknesses. Regardless of rank, all have to be as strong as each other, and have to strive for greater. Many see wolves as weak because they “rely” on the pack. However, there is something that is missed by the outsider's perception. If that were the case, all wolves would be banned together as one giant pack. But obviously, this is not the case.
There are many times where one of the Betas or one of the scouts becomes weak and begins to not hold up their end of their duties. In some cases, the weaker is killed off. In many cases, they are exiled. When this occurs they are called a Rogue Wolf. The Rogue must on its own become stronger or die. The ones who live often become Alphas to another pack. This can happen from the chance of finding a Rogue of the opposite sex and slowly developing their own “Monarchy”. In other cases, the Rogue finds that they are very strong and can become the Alpha of another pack. In these cases, they may come across another pack and see that the Alpha of that pack is weaker, and “remove” them from their position.
In some cases, the Alpha will be challenged by one of the Betas. If the Alpha is showing signs of weakness, uncertainty, and incompetence, the strongest of the Betas will “remove” the Alpha. Sometimes out of respect, these “removals” will not entail killing the weaker. But that is sometimes, not all the time. Other times this will become a fight to the death, a one-on-one fight to the death. There is no ganging up, only a fair fight. Each wolf knows the pack is there for them, when they show strength and the will to fight. Being ill or injured is one thing, but there is no room for grousers.
To some, it seems being in a pack is very “cut throat”. This is true and false in many aspects, however. Each wolf must be able to carry out his or her part, or another in order to stay within the pack. But for many wolves, exile can be the cure for the ailment of weakness. And obviously, with the several packs there are in the world, it may have been the best thing that ever happened to some Rogues.
Even though each part of the pack has different jobs, it makes them no less or more important than the others. It's not like a game of chess, where the king has the leisure of expendable pawns at his disposal (However, chess will come into play another time with the Jensari). They are more like a big family. But even families know when to cut off loose ties. Like the drug-addicted son/daughter/brother/sister who has been repeatedly arrested and all that are eventually left to survive on their own. In these cases, though it may seem warped, like the wolves they will exile the person in hopes that the group security will spur them to live a better life than the group effort. Or, at least hope death will come quickly for the person out of pure pity.
