Voice as Creation
The infant heralds her will upon the world with a shriek.
Voices are often small. The inexperienced prefer generalities: grand sweeping statements in vague contexts. “We” and “must” litter their offerings, the Maker’s Mark of those who prefer the safety of anonymity in “we” and the absolutism of “must”. They long for inclusion, hoping that as they espouse ideas shaped in Wisdom’s effigy, they will gain acceptance and validation. They seek authority through preaching absolutes for the masses, anointing themselves pontiff.
The experienced speak more personally: “I” more than “we”. Speaking for themselves, absolutes become aspirations … goals … limitations. They expose these self-created bonds that hide so plainly from the uninitiated. They bypass the comforts of conformity, standing bold in the face of the maelstrom. They pass judgment over themselves alone, embracing their supreme authority.
The seeker speaks, creating a world of his making. When he speaks vaguely, it is an abstract world void of soul. When he speaks for himself, he is forced to look inward and define what he sees. Own your voice of creation. Learn to speak as a child does. Experiment through babble, imitate if you must. The creation is waiting, if the language can be learned.
